Overcome Pornography for Good with Sara Brewer | The Power of Surrendering to Urges

Episode 269: The Power of Surrendering to Urges

March 16, 20262 min read

Have you been trying to quit pornography by fighting it? Many people approach this process like a battle, trying to resist urges, push them away, or overpower them with discipline and willpower. But when you treat urges like an enemy you need to defeat, it actually makes the process harder.

In this episode, I’m talking about why surrendering is such an important part of overcoming pornography. Surrendering does not mean giving in to urges. It means allowing them to exist without fighting them or trying to force them away. When you stop resisting and get curious about what an urge actually feels like in your body, it loses much of its power. This approach also helps you begin to notice the emotions underneath the urge, like stress, loneliness, anger, or resentment.

Join me this week as I show you how surrendering to urges and the emotions beneath them can completely change the way you approach quitting porn. You will learn why willpower often backfires, how resisting emotions can make urges stronger, and why allowing yourself to feel uncomfortable emotions is a key step toward lasting freedom.
