Episode 297: Mindful Urge Management (Pillar Two of Quitting Porn)
Urges are not something you have to fear or fight against. In this second episode of a four-part series on the pillars needed to overcome pornography, I talk about mindful urge management and how learning to work with your urges can help you stop feeling controlled by them.
I explain why resisting urges or reacting to them often keeps you stuck, and why learning to allow them without pushing them away or giving in can help you build confidence in your ability to experience discomfort. We’ll explore the difference between an urge and the meaning you assign to it, and why neutralizing your urges is an important part of changing your relationship with them.
You’ll learn how to change your relationship with urges, why getting out of your head and into your body can help you process discomfort differently, and how learning from slip-ups can help you create new results. This episode will help you understand your urges in a new way and develop the skills to respond with more awareness and intention.
